Tryout Dates & Times
All tryouts take place at Tilton School Ice Rink. Players should arrive 30 minutes early, dressed and ready to go. Multiple sessions per age group give evaluators a full picture of each player.

What to Expect
Tryouts are a competitive evaluation. Come ready to work. Here's what you need to know before you step on the ice.
Full Equipment Required
Players must arrive in full hockey gear including helmet, gloves, pads, skates, stick, and hockey pants. No exceptions.
Arrive 30 Minutes Early
Be dressed and ready to hit the ice at your scheduled time. Late arrivals may not be evaluated.
Skating & Skills Evaluation
Evaluators will assess skating ability, puck skills, hockey IQ, and compete level through drills and game-situation play.
Attitude Matters
We evaluate character as much as skill. Body language, coachability, effort, and how you interact with other players are all being watched.
Multiple Sessions
Most age groups have two evaluation dates. Attend both to give evaluators the best look at your game.
$40 Tryout Fee
Payable at registration. Fee covers ice time and evaluation for all sessions in your age group.

Compete Level
How hard do you go when it matters? We watch for effort on every rep, not just when you have the puck.

Hockey IQ
Positioning, anticipation, reads. Can you see the play before it happens?

Skating Ability
Speed, edges, agility, and balance. Your feet are your foundation.

Puck Skills
Hands, passing, shooting. Can you execute under pressure?

Coachability
Do you listen? Do you adjust? Do you respond to instruction without ego?

Body Language
Head up, engaged, encouraging teammates. We see everything—including what you do when you think nobody is watching.

Tryout FAQ
What equipment do I need?
Full hockey equipment is required — helmet, cage/visor, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, skates, and stick. No exceptions.
How much does it cost?
The tryout fee is $40 per player, payable at registration. This covers ice time and evaluation for all sessions in your age group.
Where are tryouts held?
All tryouts take place at Tilton School Ice Rink.
Should my player attend both sessions?
Yes. Attending both sessions gives evaluators a full picture of your player's ability and is strongly recommended.
What happens after tryouts?
Evaluations are reviewed by the coaching staff. Selected players will receive a formal offer and instructions to complete registration for the 2026–27 season.
What if my player's age group has only one tryout date?
Some age groups (8U, 16U, 18U) have two sessions across different dates. Check the schedule above for your specific birth year. If scheduling conflicts arise, contact us at info@nhselects.com.
