Learn to Skate

Magic Blades has been teaching Lakes Region kids to skate since 1997, on the same ice our teams call home. Rather than run two beginner skating programs under one roof, NH Selects now sends every new skater to the people who do it best.

Magic Blades runs Learn to Skate USA, the national learn-to-skate curriculum, with trained instructors and small groups sorted by ability. Your child builds balance, edges, stopping, and confidence. When they are ready for a stick and a puck, NH Selects Learn to Play is waiting on the same ice.

• Try it first. New skaters can come to the first week, then register by week two.
• Family discounts for siblings and multiple sessions.

  Learn to Skate Magic Blades

  Balance, gliding, stopping, and confidence on the ice. No hockey gear needed.

  Learn to Play Hockey NH Selects

  Full gear, a stick, and a puck. Puck skills, passing, shooting, and half-ice games on Saturday mornings.

  8U Selects Development NH Selects

  The first full team experience, with PEP training, structured practices, and games.

• Helmet. A hockey helmet or bike helmet. Magic Blades requires one for skaters under 6, and we recommend one for every beginner.
• Skates. Hockey or figure skates both work. Future hockey players can start in hockey skates.
• Warm clothing. Mittens or gloves, water-repellent pants, and a jacket.
• No hockey gear. That comes later, in Learn to Play.
