Learn to Skate
Learn to Skate
The first step to playing hockey is learning to skate. Our 7-week program builds confident, balanced skaters ready for the next level.
The first step to playing hockey is learning to skate. This 7-week program, offered by NH Selects, is a beginner's ice skating program designed for players who have not yet mastered their skating skills. It is built to prepare young skaters who wish to pursue hockey.
Each session runs once per week on Saturday mornings with 3 sessions offered throughout the year, giving families flexibility to join at a time that works for them. Whether your child has never stepped on ice or needs to strengthen their fundamentals, this is where they start.
Our Learn to Skate program is the entry point into the NH Selects development pipeline. Here's how the journey unfolds.
Skaters are placed into the appropriate level based on their current ability. Not sure which level? We'll help assess your child at the first session.
Standing and balancing on ice, falling safely and getting back up, basic forward movement and gliding, beginner stopping techniques, and building confidence on the ice.
Forward and backward crossovers, hockey stops and transitions, edge work and agility, speed and stride development, and game-ready skating fundamentals.
Three 7-week sessions run throughout the year, starting September 2026. Saturdays at MacMorran Field House, Tilton School.
No hockey gear is required for this program. Keep it simple — here's what to bring.
