NH Selects Hockey
Mental Health & Wellness
Being an elite hockey player demands more than physical skill. It demands mental strength. NH Selects is committed to supporting the whole athlete — on the ice and off it.

Why It Matters
Mental Health in Youth Hockey
Youth hockey players face a unique combination of pressures — performance expectations, physical demands, time away from school and friends, and the weight of team identity. These are real stressors that deserve real attention. Mental health is not a weakness. It is part of the game.

Hockey & Mental Wellness
1616.org — The Andrew Ladd Foundation
NHL veteran Andrew Ladd and his wife founded 1616.org to bring mental wellness into the culture of hockey from the earliest ages. Their free, 10-week virtual program is built specifically for young hockey players ages 10–12 and features lessons from professional athletes on resilience, confidence, handling setbacks, and what it really takes to compete at the highest level.
The program teaches the “Buffalo Mindset” — the idea that when a storm comes, buffalos run toward it rather than away from it. It is a framework for facing pressure, adversity, and failure with courage rather than avoidance. It is exactly the kind of mental foundation every Selects player should carry with them.
✓ Free 10-week virtual program for players ages 10–12
✓ Lessons from NHL professionals including Deryk Engelland, Anders Lee, Blake Wheeler, and more
✓ Designed for players, parents, and coaches together
✓ Builds resilience, confidence, and mental fortitude alongside on-ice development
